EVCA: Could you explain more about what you do in your roles at EVCA?

Abdul: I co-lead the fintech vertical and focus on curating events for the growing fintech investor community in EVCA, especially in NYC/the East Coast. I hosted four events in 2024 – fireside chats and panels with prominent fintech founders, operators, and investors. My primary objective is to organize insightful programming that brings together fintech investors and enables them to build meaningful relationships in the ecosystem.

EVCA: What made you interested in taking a leadership role at EVCA?

Abdul: I have gained a lot from being part of the EVCA and was inspired to give back by my colleague, Betsy, who is an EVCA champion in Boston. I also took on the leadership role as I was moving back to NYC, and it has been a great way to get reconnected with fellow investors.

EVCA: What is your most contrarian view on an existing or emerging technology trend? (5+ sentences)

Abdul: There will be many vertical software businesses built over the next decade, and they will become larger than the biggest ones in the market today. Historically many verticals have been overlooked due to unattractive TAMs. However, selling agentic software where AI agents carry out the manual, repetitive tasks done by humans will enable startups to charge more for work completed than most enterprise software contracts in the market today ($70K-$4000K).
