Ananya Kapoor is an investor at Flex Capital, a $225M pre-seed/seed fund led by current founders and operators. Flex's portfolio includes companies like Mercury, Perplexity, Vercel, and CodeRabbit. Currently, she is the only non-GP on the investment team, where she handles everything from sourcing to supporting portfolio companies. Before Flex, she was a Software Engineer at Stripe, where she built technical foundations that helped shape how she evaluates founders. She holds a B.S. and M.S. in Computer Science from Stanford University.

What is a value, principle, or philosophy that has meaningfully shaped your journey? How does it continue to influence how you invest, lead, or approach challenges?

I have always believed in treating others the way I would want to be treated and leading with empathy. As an operator turned investor, my background has helped me bring that into my work. I know how hard building actually is, and that shapes everything about how I work with founders. Oftentimes, that means digging into the technical details with a founder or talking through the feasibility of what they're building. That's usually where they shine most and where they're the proudest, and there's nothing more fulfilling than watching a founder explain what they've built and seeing their eyes light up. Coming from the engineering side myself, I can meet them there — and that's often where trust starts.

Is there a technology, idea, or movement that most people overlook (or dismiss) which you believe will define the next era of innovation? What draws you to this perspective?

One area I'm increasingly drawn to is Space, and it keeps getting more interesting the more time I spend on it. Space is capital intensive and slow to return, which makes it hard to know in the moment whether a bet is working. Those can be the same reasons it's tough to raise capital for it, especially very early,  but I think that's exactly where the opportunity is. What makes it even more interesting to me is that NASA plans to wind down International Space Station operations by the end of 2030. The companies that start now have enough time to test and validate ahead of that transition, which is what positions them to fill that vacuum.
